Having your phone ring loudly in a quiet environment could be potentially embarrassing for you, but also quite annoying for everyone else that didn't forget to put their smartphone on silent. Whether it's in class, at work during a meeting, at the library, or a movie screening—you can bet that someone's phone is going to ring loudly, pissing some people off.
You don't really want to be that douchebag that interrupts a movie or the middle of a lecture with their annoying ringtone just because you forgot to lower the volume on you Android device, do you?
Didn't think so.
If you're worried that you might forget to turn off your ringtone before you enter somewhere quiet, don't fret, because developer soulreaver1 has created Intelligent Ringer, an Android app that alertly sets the ringtone volume on your smartphone depending on the ambient noise in your environment. It even knows when your device is in your pocket or not and factors that in.
While there are similar apps like Noise Meter and Intelliring, Intelligent Ringer adjusts its internal settings specific to your particular device, whether that be the Samsung Galaxy Note 2, Galaxy S3 or any other Android device. What this means is that measurement and setting process accuracy is maximized and much more precise.
The application works by using your phone's microphone in order to analyze the amount of sounds in your environment, adjusting the ringtone volume down when in a quiet environment and putting the ringtone volume higher when in a loud area. If the phone is in your pocket or purse, the proximity sensor on the front of the phone is utilized by the application to adjust the ringtone as well.
Some of the settings that you can configure include:
- Pocket Factor - Additional volume which is added to the actual measurement value only when the device is discovered to be in a pocket.
- Accuracy - Change the precision of the volume setting process.
- Sensitivity - Change the microphone sensitivity.
- Minimum/Maximum Volume - Limit the maximum and minimum volume.
